The Effects of Moisturizing and Oiling Bath for the Inpatients with Dry Skin


Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the moisturizing and oiling bath for the inpatients with dry skin.
The study was designed with nonequivalent control group repeated measures design.
The subjects were selected from an intensive care unit of a hospital. They were composed of 34 patients; 17 patients were assigned to the experimental group and the rest of them to the control group.
The experimental group was received the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin one time per day for 6 days, total 6 times. On the other hand, the control group received sponge bath one time per day for 6 days, total 6 times.
The tool of this study was modified SCDF(Skin Condition Data Forms).
The data were collected from Octover, 10, 1996 to April, 3, 1997.
The data were analyzed using the SPSS/PC+ program; frequancy, percentage, X2-test and t-test. The results of the study were as follows:
1. There was no significant difference in the modified SCDF scores before intervention between the experimental group and the control group.
2. There was significant difference in the modified SCDF scores after intervention between the experimental group.
In conclusion, the finding of this study showed the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin had therapeutic effect for the inpatient with dry skin. The data in this study suggest that the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin is effective at least two times intervention and requires continuous intervention.
Based on the result, the recommendations are ;
1. Based on the finding of this study showed that the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin had therapeutic effect for the inpatient with dry skin, application of the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin is encouraged.
2. Continuous intervention of the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin is needed to examine the rate of the moisturizing and oiling bath for the dry skin and intervention period for complete improvement of the dry skin.
